Description
What happens when you pair elementary students in South Los Angeles with older adults from their community? Everybody wins. Generation Xchange, a partnership between the UCLA Division of Geriatric Medicine and LAUSD, places older volunteers in K-3 classrooms to boost reading and math skills while enhancing their own health. The results speak for themselves: 60% fewer office referrals, higher classroom engagement and improved reading proficiency. Volunteers benefit, too — losing weight, increasing mobility and feeling happier. Many report improved stamina, more exercise days and greater overall well-being.
