Veteran's Garden
The UCLA Center for Human Nutrition and the Veterans Affairs Greater Los Angeles Health Care System are partnering to address food insecurity and higher rates of diet-related disease among Veterans through an initiative to expand the Veteran’s Garden, a 15-acre farm where volunteers grow and harvest nutritious produce for themselves, their families, and other Veterans. Additionally, the garden provides agricultural therapy for Veterans experiencing severe mental illness, which helps to reduce pain, anxiety, and depression and improve overall well-being. The Center believes that food is medicine and strongly advocates for access to affordable, healthy food for the under-resourced Veteran community.
